Teaching in the COVID Era!

This has been a really stressful, trying year, and hopefully everyone is getting vaccinated, I have! Life is slowly getting back to “normal”, but everyone I know is still behaving with caution. I hope you’re doing the same.

I have returned to teaching in person and the Associations I teach at are requesting masks unless fully vaccinated, and at the end of class we do a thorough cleaning. Come to think of it, it’s only courteous to clean up for the next class anyway!

This summer, I am teaching “Painting White Objects”, a one day workshop at Lancaster County Art Association on Thursday, August 19, 2021 9am to 3pm. This is a great workshop to understand painting snow, sand, milk!

This fall, I will be teaching at Lancaster County Art Association from September 9 through November 4 (nine weeks), 9am to 12pm.

Additionally, I will be teaching at York Art Association Wednesdays, September 8 through November 3, 9am to 12pm.

All levels are welcome!

New Pastel Group Forming!

Pennsylvania has a ton of pastel painters just dying for a group to belong to!  An informal group has begun to paint once a month at the York Art Association located at 220 South Marshall Street, York, PA 17402, telephone number 717-755-0028.  The dates and times vary due to studio availability.  Generally the group meets from 10 am until 3 pm.  There is currently no membership fee as we are trying to determine interest and commitment.

Our group gets together to paint and you could bring in a work in progress or just completed for “show and tell”, group critique, share a technique, any art opportunities, and bring your lunch. It’s a very supportive setting!

If you’d like to join us, please contact the York Art Association 717-755-0028 for the next session.

Busy Times!

I’ve been working away at painting and it’s not easy.  I really find it’s important to put it on my calendar and schedule painting sessions, because I often allow other projects to dictate how I spend my time.  The more I paint, the better I understand light, value and composition.  Right now, I am trying to paint with more purpose.  Painting, whatever the medium, is not about copying a scene.  Our goal should be to evoke a mood, memory or maybe a story.

My daughter is working on my Twitter account, and I will post it as soon as it’s available.  If anyone is interested in classes in Pastel, I do teach at Lancaster County Art Assoc., 149 Precision Ave, Strasburg, PA 17579 (telephone 717-687-7061, website lcaaonline.org ) and York Art Assoc., 220 S Marshall St, York, PA 17402 (telephone 717- 755-0028, website: yorkartassociation.org ). I can also be reached via email at dk.stepenaski@verizon.net

News for November!

A tough time all around – the LCAA Downtown Gallery has closed.  I really enjoyed my time there gallery sitting and having people watch me paint.  Unfortunately, sales were not there.  Our LCAA gallery is still open in Strasburg, PA, so please do visit there.  Strasburg is a very historic area and certainly worth the ride!

On a sad note, our Golden passed away from cancer.  To celebrate her, I did a painting of her and her sister.  I named it “Sisters in the Surf”, doing their favorite thing in the world, playing in the ocean!  Hope you enjoy it.

News October 11, 2014

Hello, Internet!

Apologies for the slight hiatus. Things have been quite busy over here.

This month at Strawberry & Company on King Street in Lancaster, PA  I am the featured artist! Please stop on by and see some new work I will post in the future here on the site, and some old. I’m very excited about it.

In other news, I received word I have been accepted into the Historic Yellow Springs Art Show for April 2015! This has been an amazing and very busy year for me.  It’s a big honor to be juried into such a prestigious show. I hope this is a sign of good things to come.

Welcome
